Finding the right support after prolonged delay

Our client had significant eligible care and support needs and required 1:1 support with daily living and continuous supervision to maintain their safety and wellbeing.

Although it was accepted that our client required supported living accommodation, they remained living at home with family while experiencing significant delays in securing suitable accommodation.

This risked our client’s legal right to have their care and support needs met.

Access Social Care involvement

Over several months, we provided ongoing legal advice and support to our client and their family, engaging with the local authority to challenge the delay and progress a suitable supported living option.

We reviewed the relevant paperwork and advised on the local authority’s duty to meet their assessed eligible care and support needs, supporting the family throughout the placement process.

A clear path forward

The local authority’s funding panel approved our client’s preferred supported living provider, and commissioned a long term service including accommodation, care and support.

This decision means that, after a lengthy period of uncertainty, arrangements can now progress for our client’s supported living provision to be commissioned.

Our client now has a clear route towards living in accommodation with the appropriate care and support they need, where their assessed eligible care and support needs can be fully met.

The outcome should enable our client to develop greater independence and enjoy more opportunities for social connection, while receiving the support they need to remain safe.
