Social Care: A Time of Change

Series 2 / Episode 9

This final episode of the "State of Our Nation" podcast features a heartfelt conversation between co-hosts Kari Gerstheimer and Anna Severwright as they reflect on the series, and discuss the current challenging state of social care.

They double down on the onslaught of recent policy and financial decisions that seem to be negatively impacting people who rely on social care; such as workforce shortages, the impact of National Insurance contributions on providers, changes to VAT treatment, and concerns about the government's tone regarding overseas workers in the care sector.

The conversation then turns to the Casey Commission and Anna shares her positive impression of Baroness Louise Casey and her potential to drive real change. However, she also acknowledges the sector's understandable skepticism towards yet another inquiry…

They decide in the end to be optimistic and declare that "despair is not an option!"
